Houston Texans Betting
(8-8, 8-8 Against the Spread): +2000 to win Super Bowl XLIV
Bet on the Houston Texans this season at our number 1 rated sportsbook BookMaker.com
The Texans are on everyone's sleeper list this season. With one of the best passing attacks in the NFL, Houston is also a threat to cover. The pass rush can make opponents uncomfortable in a hurry and should prevail against some of the weaker offenses on the schedule. Houston will do better than its break-even against the spread mark in 2008.
Texans Strength:
Andre Johnson could be the best player in the NFL no one knows about. Fantasy footballers worship the Texans’ talented WR, who led the league with 1,575 yards through the air. Playing in Houston doesn't do much for your face time. Despite those numbers, Johnson only had eight touchdowns on the year. His partner, Kevin Walter took most of those red-zone looks, scoring eight times in 2008. Along with Pro Bowl TE Owen Daniels, who caught 72 balls for 888 yards, Houston has the biggest receiving corps in football.
Those large targets helped QB Matt Schaub post a 66-percent completion rate. He passed for more than 3,000 yards despite missing five games for the second straight season. Schaub could join the list of elite quarterbacks if he could avoid injury. And having a rushing game to keep defenses honest certainly helps.
Running back Steve Slaton put up big numbers for a small rusher. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound back totaled almost 1,300 yards on the ground along with 10 touchdowns. Slaton's speed and quick cuts also made him a receiving threat out of the backfield. He caught 50 balls for almost 400 yards in 2008 and will get more looks with the offense leaning towards the pass.
Texans Weakness:
Someone other than Mario Williams has to show up on defense. The freakish DE collected 12 sacks and four forced fumbles last season. Houston is hoping the addition of DE Antonio Smith will take some of the pressure of Williams, as will the improvement of DT Amobi Okoye. But while the pass rush looks sound, the Texans' secondary still has issues.
Houston allowed over 214 passing yards against in 2008 and doesn't have the depth to complement Dunta Robinson on the right side. Jacques Reeves seems to take plays off and gets picked on by opposing passers. Behind those two, the Texans are looking to inconsistent Fred Bennett and FS Eugine Wilson to shadow receivers.

With emotions running high on both sides of the ball, one team (Florida) will benefit greatly. The other will suffer an embarrassing loss on New Year’s Day. Cincinnati is playing without former head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Bearcats to significant success in recent years
We are going to use the same philosophy with game 2 of our teaser that we used with game one. Both of these teams come into this game at 7-7 and must have a win here. Again the line is about right, as the home team should win this game by around a field goal, but it’s too close to call
Seattle was able to win a close one against San Francisco last week while Houston lost a game that they had to win at Jacksonville. We have been waiting for years for Houston to finally get their stuff together and they haven’t yet. All is not lost however as in the wacky AFC
Houston played Indianapolis very tough a few weeks ago and almost beat them 20-17. The reason for that is because they can rush the passer, and that is the recipe to beat Peyton Manning, as Baltimore demonstrated last week. Houston didn’t play that great against Tennessee
Not quite the same allure as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but this week’s Bedlam Rivalry game is Oklahoma State’s Super Bowl. The Cowboys have had a tremendous season so far and Oklahoma is sitting at 6-5, ensured of its worst season since 1999
Virginia coach Al Groh has beaten the Cavaliers’ arch rival Hokies just one time in his nine years at UVA. He and the Cavaliers look to make that number two and possibly avoid his firing this Saturday in Charlottesville. The Hokies are in a down year at 8-3 and will not contend for the ACC Championship,
Despite an 11-0 record up to this point, Alabama still realistically needs to win its next two games to get into the National Championship. With Florida a perfect 11-0 as well, the Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn this week and Florida in the SEC Championship
Boise State doesn’t play too many home games where they are only 14 point favorites, but that is exactly what they are this week when Nevada comes to play on the blue turf. Boise State needs a win this week, and badly. Though the Broncos are 11-0, their only hope for a BCS appearance
At first glance you might think that it was quite a shocker that Oakland beat Cincinnati last week, but at we said the Bengals were coming off their biggest win in years and might be flat. We also felt that Jamarcus Russell was hindering the Raider offense and the switch to anybody but he was the correct move
The NFL works in patterns. One pattern is there are surprise teams every year (that would be the Texans). The other is there are teams that get off to a bad start, start playing for next year and start to play well (That would be the Titans). Tennessee has won 3 straight after dropping
Houston is starting to play like the team that I thought they would be before the season. They have won 3 straight against 3 pretty good teams. The Colts are 7-0, like they seem to be every year. The early (smart) money has knocked the line down from
We love Houston and last week we said Houston-3 was too close to call and they won by 3.We missed on the total by a half point. The Bills have been playing well as of late, beating the Jets and Panthers on the road 2 weeks in a row. The line of Houston-3 is right on the money again
We like both of these teams very much. The Texans showed that they are for real by beating the Bengals last week in Cincinnati, raising their record to a respectable 3-3. San Francisco was playing great until they were killed by Atlanta 2 weeks ago
This is a game we feel strongly about. If you have been following our picks section, you have heard me say that, in the NFL all these teams are pretty close, and it comes down to coaching and motivation. We like this game for a few reasons.
We still love the Texans and feel that they have not begun to play their best football yet. They started to play the way we feel they are capable last week with an impressive 26-9 victory that was part of our teaser.
We had another good week as we went 6-1 with our picks last week. Unfortunately Cardinal mistakes cost us our 4 team teaser. We won’t make that same mistake this week.
Both of these teams have problems. Miami really can’t play offense at the N.F.L. level. They look like a college or high school team at times, with their “Wildcat” offense and their quarterback who throws the ball like a shot put. Another quarterback, who has a funky delivery is Phillip Rivers
This week 2 of our sleeper picks are playing each other. We had Houston +7 to upset Tennessee last week and they did. They finally played up to their potential as one of the best teams in the N.F.L.
This game scares me, not only as a Giant fan but as a bettor. This is a trap game for the Giants. After 2 huge wins against division rivals, Dallas and Washington, they now play 3 games in a row versus bad teams
The next 2 games that we are picking, we are going a little bit out on a limb. There are 2 home dogs that both played very well last week as huge underdogs. Both teams had opportunities to win outright but didn’t.
Houston let us down last week and killed all of our teaser bets. There are no excuses anymore for the Texans. They had the 3rd ranked offense in the league last year, have been stockpiling young talented defensive players
The New York Jets are +5 underdog at Houston. This is one of the four games we are going to include in a 13 point teaser bet.
Before last season actually started, the Texans were being billed as a team that was poised to make its first playoff appearance ever.
Monday Night Football Betting
Probably the most well known handicapping angle is the “Monday Night Home Underdog.”
Stop thinking about rain by itself as a bad weather indicator. Look at the mix of wind, turf quality, and precipitation. It's the mix that matters, not one third of the mix.
Beating NFL 1st Quarter Lines
Bettors no longer have to look at mere sides and/or game totals to strike it rich as mostly all the online sports books (and many Las Vegas) outlets provide first and second half wagering lines along with quarter by quarter prices too on football betting.
