The Giants posted an 8-7-1 over/under mark last season with an average total of 45 points. Their improved and healthy defense will keep opponents off the scoreboard while an offense struggling to pass and relying on the run will eat a lot of clock. New York was seventh in time of possession last year and will hold on to the ball more in 2009, making them a solid under betting play entering the season.

Giants Strength:

The Giants rode their defense all the way to the Super Bowl two seasons ago. Last year injuries took a toll, leaving New York in the habit of giving up big scores late in the season. This time around players like Osi Umenyiora and Fred Robbins are healthy and highlight a roster full of defensive monsters.

The Giants' depth chart is packed after acquiring DT's Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard, leaving top-tier talent like DE Mathias Kiwanuka and DT Barry Cofield to come in as reserves. If the injury bug strikes the G-Men again this season, the bite won't be nearly as bad.

On offense, RB Brandon Jacobs sets the tone again with his thundering rushing style. The burly ball carrier rumbled for more than 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns despite getting dinged up late in the schedule. His knees are the big question heading into this season. With backfield mate Derrick Ward making the move to Tampa Bay, Jacobs will get the majority of the carries – which is a good and bad thing. Good if his knees can take it.

Giants Weakness:

New York showed how much it needed Plaxico Burress last season. Without the lanky wideout drawing double coverage, quarterback Eli Manning struggled to hold on to that Super Bowl magic. Since waiving Burress following his infamous shooting accident, the Giants have been on a mission to name a No. 1 receiver.

The team drafted Hakeem Nicks out of UNC to go along with Domenik Hixon, Mario Manningham, Sinorice Moss and USC product Steve Smith. Smith has the greatest potential to step up this year. Last season, he caught just 57 balls but was Manning's favorite target when the going got tough. Of his total 574 yards receiving, 236 were on third down.

Manning must also improve. He passed for 21 touchdowns on over 3,200 yards last season but fell apart late in the schedule. In the final five contests of the year, including the playoffs, Manning failed to throw for over 200 yards in a game and had a completion rating of 54 percent.

Time Team
Florida vs. Cincinnati Pick

With emotions running high on both sides of the ball, one team (Florida) will benefit greatly. The other will suffer an embarrassing loss on New Year’s Day. Cincinnati is playing without former head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Bearcats to significant success in recent years

Panthers vs Giants Pick

As a Giant fan, my blood pressure finally went down after week 10 on Monday night. The Giants played like the team that won the Super bowl in that game. Eli had his brother’s look in his eye, not the “Opie” look. Brandon Jacobs and Amand Bradshaw refused to go down and the defense stepped up

Giants vs Redskins Betting

Very sad night for Giant fans last week. Winning the division is out of the question now, but the playoffs are still a possibility. No matter, this team is not winning the Super bowl. This is the worst Giant defense I have ever seen. We have cornerbacks playing safety

Eagles vs Giants Pick

Let me start by saying I am a lifelong Giants fan, but as a professional I try to be objective about my team. I bet heavy on the Giants money line early in the week last week because I knew the Giants would win that game against Dallas. This week is a different story however

Virginia Tech vs Virginia Pick

Virginia coach Al Groh has beaten the Cavaliers’ arch rival Hokies just one time in his nine years at UVA. He and the Cavaliers look to make that number two and possibly avoid his firing this Saturday in Charlottesville. The Hokies are in a down year at 8-3 and will not contend for the ACC Championship,

Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma Pick

Not quite the same allure as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but this week’s Bedlam Rivalry game is Oklahoma State’s Super Bowl. The Cowboys have had a tremendous season so far and Oklahoma is sitting at 6-5, ensured of its worst season since 1999

Nevada vs Boise State Pick

Boise State doesn’t play too many home games where they are only 14 point favorites, but that is exactly what they are this week when Nevada comes to play on the blue turf. Boise State needs a win this week, and badly. Though the Broncos are 11-0, their only hope for a BCS appearance

Alabama vs Auburn Pick

Despite an 11-0 record up to this point, Alabama still realistically needs to win its next two games to get into the National Championship. With Florida a perfect 11-0 as well, the Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn this week and Florida in the SEC Championship

Giants vs Broncos Pick

Both of these teams started the year out very hot, and then fell on difficult times. One of these teams however is back on track and the other is still in trouble. I think you can figure out which team is which. The Broncos were never that good and used a motivating rookie coach

Raiders vs Cowboys Pick

At first glance you might think that it was quite a shocker that Oakland beat Cincinnati last week, but at we said the Bengals were coming off their biggest win in years and might be flat. We also felt that Jamarcus Russell was hindering the Raider offense and the switch to anybody but he was the correct move

Chargers vs Dolphins Pick

Both of these teams have problems. Miami really can’t play offense at the N.F.L. level. They look like a college or high school team at times, with their “Wildcat” offense and their quarterback who throws the ball like a shot put. Another quarterback, who has a funky delivery is Phillip Rivers

Packers vs Rams

The next 2 games that we are picking, we are going a little bit out on a limb. There are 2 home dogs that both played very well last week as huge underdogs. Both teams had opportunities to win outright but didn’t.

Giants vs Cowboys Betting

The reason we are including this game in our 13 point teaser is because this will be a great game to watch that will come down to a late field goal, or touchdown, and 3 points just isn’t enough.

Panthers at the Giants - Preseason 2009

The Panthers better get used to playing the Giants at the Meadowlands quickly – their preseason game is a precursor to their Week 16 matchup at New York later this season.
