New York Jets Betting
(9-7, 7-9 AGAINST THE SPREAD): +3000 to win Super Bowl XLIV
Bet on the New York Jets this season at our number 1 rated sportsbook BookMaker.com
Somehow the rumor got started that New York has a great defense. Sure, the Jets were able to stuff the rush last season. But with new head coach Rex Ryan bringing his aggressive defense to the table, there will be a rough transition. New York is going to blitz a lot. But all that activity could wear down an aging line and leave a new group of defensive backs cleaning up the mess.
Until the defense finds that swagger Ryan is looking for, betting on the Jets is early fade bait – especially with tough games in Houston, hosting Tennessee and at New Orleans to start the year.
Jets Strength:
Thomas Jones may get all the credit for the 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns he rumbled for last season. But Jets backers know those numbers belong to the offensive line. New York's O-line is a blend of experience and youth, with Pro-Bowlers Alan Faneca and Nick Mangold leading the push. They allowed 30 sacks last year and helped Jones rush for 4.5 yards per carry. This year, defenses will test their pass block with a rookie quarterback behind center.
Jones does deserve some of the credit. He exploded in the second half of the season and became a fantasy football gem. This summer, contract disputes may put a snag in his offseason preparation but Jets fans need not worry. Behind Jones is a solid tandem of Leon Washington and burly rookie Shonn Green. Washington also had a great year in 2008 and proved to be a dual threat. He rushed for 448 yards and six touchdowns while catching 47 passes for 355 yards and two scores through the air.
Jets Weakness:
With Brett Favre doing his offseason dance again, the Jets are under pressure to start USC product Mark Sanchez under center. Sanchez is full of potential but had only one year as a starter in college. On top of that, he's the new face of the franchise and will be the target of New York's rabid fan base and media coverage. Opposing defenses will throw everything but the kitchen sink at Sanchez this season in hopes of cracking the Jets' young stud.
Sanchez doesn't have much to work with on the wings either. New York dropped Laveranues Coles, leaving Jerricho Cotchery as the team's No. 1 option. Speedster David Clowney will get a lot more looks than the one career catch he's had in three NFL seasons. Tight end Dustin Keller can act as another set of hands but is a liability on the pass block.

Maybe it’s time give the Jets a little credit and start to take them seriously or maybe not. This team is made up of a bunch of no name players, with a rookie quarterback, rookie coach, and one great corner back. It just goes to show you how important coaching is in football.
No more messing around here. No more worrying about what team is resting their players and who will be eliminated with a loss and all of all that other nonsense. It's time for real football, the NFL playoffs and the pursuit of being a world champion. Traditionally the dogs do very well on wild card weekend, and then the favorites win big a week later.
With emotions running high on both sides of the ball, one team (Florida) will benefit greatly. The other will suffer an embarrassing loss on New Year’s Day. Cincinnati is playing without former head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Bearcats to significant success in recent years
Both of these teams played games last week that will define their regular season. The Colts showed that they will be the Super bowl favorite come January, and the Jets blew one that might cost them the playoffs
Mark Sanchez is a little banged up for the Jets here so at the time of writing this column there was no betting line on the game. No matter, we couldn’t care less who wins this game. The Jets still feel like they can make the playoffs, yea right, and I still have a chance to marry Scarlett Johansen
The Bills offense exploded in the 4th quarter last week to beat Miami and showed that they are going to play hard the rest of the year. The Jets won an ugly 17-6 game last week against Carolina in which we said take the under. This is going to be a better game then people think
Both of these teams are on the down side. Carolina lost at home last week to Miami, and the Jets got pelted by New England. One of these teams will get a win this week but we are not sure of which one that will be. What we are certain about is that both of this offenses have struggled
Virginia coach Al Groh has beaten the Cavaliers’ arch rival Hokies just one time in his nine years at UVA. He and the Cavaliers look to make that number two and possibly avoid his firing this Saturday in Charlottesville. The Hokies are in a down year at 8-3 and will not contend for the ACC Championship,
Not quite the same allure as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but this week’s Bedlam Rivalry game is Oklahoma State’s Super Bowl. The Cowboys have had a tremendous season so far and Oklahoma is sitting at 6-5, ensured of its worst season since 1999
Boise State doesn’t play too many home games where they are only 14 point favorites, but that is exactly what they are this week when Nevada comes to play on the blue turf. Boise State needs a win this week, and badly. Though the Broncos are 11-0, their only hope for a BCS appearance
Despite an 11-0 record up to this point, Alabama still realistically needs to win its next two games to get into the National Championship. With Florida a perfect 11-0 as well, the Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn this week and Florida in the SEC Championship
At first glance you might think that it was quite a shocker that Oakland beat Cincinnati last week, but at we said the Bengals were coming off their biggest win in years and might be flat. We also felt that Jamarcus Russell was hindering the Raider offense and the switch to anybody but he was the correct move
Just 2 weeks ago these 2 teams played a very good game on Monday Night Football, in which Miami won the game at the very end. The Jets finally got back on track last week beating Oakland 38-0. Miami was beating New Orleans 24-3 then fell apart and didn’t even cover
The Dolphins showed last week that they still want to have a good season, despite their 0-3 start. The Jets +6.5 disappointed us last week versus New Orleans.
Both of these teams have problems. Miami really can’t play offense at the N.F.L. level. They look like a college or high school team at times, with their “Wildcat” offense and their quarterback who throws the ball like a shot put. Another quarterback, who has a funky delivery is Phillip Rivers
The next 2 games that we are picking, we are going a little bit out on a limb. There are 2 home dogs that both played very well last week as huge underdogs. Both teams had opportunities to win outright but didn’t.
After compiling a 58-44 record from 2001 to 2006, the St. Louis Rams have fallen apart in the last two seasons, finishing 3-13 in 2007 and 2-14 (6-10 AGAINST THE SPREAD) in 2008.
