There are plenty of expectations being put on the Eagles this season. Philadelphia has a light schedule to open the year, with games against Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Oakland beefing up the record. As the winter gets closer, the opponents get tougher presenting good play-against value in the Eagles. With the team depending on so many young players, Philadelphia could be huge fade bait down the stretch and even into the postseason.
Eagles Strength:
The pass-happy Eagles stayed the course last season, putting up over 244 yards through the air per game. Quarterback Donovan McNabb is coming off a roller-coaster season in which he went from Philly's pariah to playoff perfection. The franchise knows how close it is to a Super Bowl appearance and loaded up with young talent to help McNabb out.
Along with sophomore standout WR DeSean Jackson and an injury-prone RB Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia has rookie WR Jeremy Maclin and veteran Kevin Curtis lining up. Tight end Brent Celek showed promise in his second season and could turn out to be a huge redzone player for the Eagles.
Philadelphia was also one of the best defensive squads last season, allowing just 18 points on 274 yards per game. The Eagles shed some aging talents in the secondary and have rebuilt their pass defense around CB Asante Samuel. The front seven remains the same with Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley plugging up the middle and defensive end Trent Cole hunting quarterbacks. Stewart Bradley broke out and leads a solid line backing corps that can handle the pass and the rush.
Eagles Weakness:
Brian Westbrook will miss the beginning of the season with an ankle injury and rookie backup RB LeSean McCoy is also dinged up heading into camp. The Eagles’ running game, if you can call it that, was a dismal 22nd overall last season and mustered just over 100 yards per game.
As great as Westbrook is in the flat, Philadelphia needs a reliable rusher to set up the pass and keep defenses honest. Heading into his seventh year, Westbrook has yet to play an entire schedule and posted under 1,000 yards on the ground for the first time in three years last season.
That fragile ground attack could leave duties to McCoy and Lorenzo Booker, who amassed just 53 yards last season. Opposing pass rushes got to McNabb 23 times and snagged 16 interceptions in 2008. Without a ground game mixing up the offense, those numbers could increase this year.

It seems almost like Vegas and the online sports books planned week 17 to be a set-up for a huge pay day this week. This is the second game in a row that is going to have stupid people looking back at last week’s game and betting the wrong team. The Eagles did need that game last week, but once thing got out of hand, they stopped playing in the second half.
With emotions running high on both sides of the ball, one team (Florida) will benefit greatly. The other will suffer an embarrassing loss on New Year’s Day. Cincinnati is playing without former head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Bearcats to significant success in recent years
The Eagles have been playing great as of late, and we grade them at the highest we have graded them in years. Donovan finally has some playmakers and they get Brian Westbrook back this week
Let me start by saying I am a lifelong Giants fan, but as a professional I try to be objective about my team. I bet heavy on the Giants money line early in the week last week because I knew the Giants would win that game against Dallas. This week is a different story however
We were right in saying that Washington would play hard against Dallas last week and this week will no different. The Washington defense has been playing much better, and if the offense can score some points then they might be able
Virginia coach Al Groh has beaten the Cavaliers’ arch rival Hokies just one time in his nine years at UVA. He and the Cavaliers look to make that number two and possibly avoid his firing this Saturday in Charlottesville. The Hokies are in a down year at 8-3 and will not contend for the ACC Championship,
Not quite the same allure as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but this week’s Bedlam Rivalry game is Oklahoma State’s Super Bowl. The Cowboys have had a tremendous season so far and Oklahoma is sitting at 6-5, ensured of its worst season since 1999
Boise State doesn’t play too many home games where they are only 14 point favorites, but that is exactly what they are this week when Nevada comes to play on the blue turf. Boise State needs a win this week, and badly. Though the Broncos are 11-0, their only hope for a BCS appearance
Despite an 11-0 record up to this point, Alabama still realistically needs to win its next two games to get into the National Championship. With Florida a perfect 11-0 as well, the Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn this week and Florida in the SEC Championship
At first glance you might think that it was quite a shocker that Oakland beat Cincinnati last week, but at we said the Bengals were coming off their biggest win in years and might be flat. We also felt that Jamarcus Russell was hindering the Raider offense and the switch to anybody but he was the correct move
Both of these teams have problems. Miami really can’t play offense at the N.F.L. level. They look like a college or high school team at times, with their “Wildcat” offense and their quarterback who throws the ball like a shot put. Another quarterback, who has a funky delivery is Phillip Rivers
The next 2 games that we are picking, we are going a little bit out on a limb. There are 2 home dogs that both played very well last week as huge underdogs. Both teams had opportunities to win outright but didn’t.
After last year’s fluke injury in which quarterback Tom Brady missed the last 15 games of the season, New England bounces back with a healthy signal caller and a hunger to make the playoffs.
