Pittsburgh Steelers Betting
(12-4, 9-7 Against the Spread): +750 to win Super Bowl XLIV
Bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers this season at our number 1 rated sportsbook BookMaker.com
With great defense and a focus on establishing the run, the Steelers are a safe bet on the under. Last year, they posted an even 8-8 over/under mark thanks to the injuries in the backfield. As for the spread bet, any Super Bowl team will have some extra chalk on the line. The Steelers were 5-3 Against the Spread on the road in 2008 and should still hold value away from Heinz Field.
Steelers Strength:
The Steelers are building on a Super Bowl championship and own the best defense in the NFL. Last season, Pittsburgh stymied opponents for just 14 points against per game. They didn't budge in the air or on the ground and return the core of that stop unit in 2009. The depth chart is getting a little on in age but still has monsters like OLB James Harrison, ILB James Farrior and hard-hitting safety Troy Polamalu, who is also a threat to take one back to the house.
Pittsburgh will get back to running the ball after injuries hurt the rushing attack in 2008. Running back Willie Parker played in just 11 games last year but rumbled for almost 800 yards. A lot of that decline had to do with the early-season injury to Rashard Mendenhall. He's back along with third-stringer Mewelde Moore, who stepped up with over 1,000 all-purpose yards last season. The resurgence of the ground game should keep some of the pressure of QB Ben Roethlisberger.
Steelers Weakness:
The offensive line was the biggest strike against the Steelers last year, and the majority of that blocking unit is back for 2009. The O-line wasn't helped by the injuries to the running backs, which allowed defenses to come after Roethlisberger. They allowed 49 sacks last year and were a big reason why Roethlisberger's numbers regressed. The QB played the entire year with numerous injuries and can't survive another season staring up at the lights.
The secondary is the only real chink in the Steelers’ defensive armor. With the loss of CB Bryant McFadden, Pittsburgh is putting a lot of weight in untested talent. Williams Gay appears to be the frontrunner for the starting spot alongside Ike Taylor. Gay started just four games last season and grabbed one interception. If he can't make the grade, the Steelers would look to rookie Keenan Lewis. At safety, Polamalu seems to be in on every play. But his jaw-jacking style of football leads to injuries and Pittsburgh doesn't have the depth to make up for a loss that size.

With emotions running high on both sides of the ball, one team (Florida) will benefit greatly. The other will suffer an embarrassing loss on New Year’s Day. Cincinnati is playing without former head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Bearcats to significant success in recent years
Now we’re talking. The Steelers proved last week that they are alive and well, and won’t give up their title without a fight. Baltimore has been playing the best football in the NFL as of late. Both of these teams need this one badly. Pittsburgh to make the playoffs and Baltimore to have an outside shot at the division
We knew the Steelers weren’t that good, but to lose to Cleveland is inexcusable. This is the week that they finally get back on track. Green Bay has played at a very high level for weeks now, and will make the playoffs. The Packers don’t need this game as much as the Steelers do
Another great week betting, if you’ve been taking our advice all year, you have money in the bank by now. We hit on our weekly teaser last week, and we are going to start off with another one this week. What the hell is wrong with Pittsburgh? The problem is that they are not that good, and never were. Even last year when they went all the way, they never totally dominated people
There was no line at the time of the writing of this column because of the uncertain Pittsburgh QB situation. Charlie Batch is gone, and but it looks like “Indestructible Big Ben”, will play even with his head injury. He has proven before how hard his head is
Virginia coach Al Groh has beaten the Cavaliers’ arch rival Hokies just one time in his nine years at UVA. He and the Cavaliers look to make that number two and possibly avoid his firing this Saturday in Charlottesville. The Hokies are in a down year at 8-3 and will not contend for the ACC Championship,
Not quite the same allure as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but this week’s Bedlam Rivalry game is Oklahoma State’s Super Bowl. The Cowboys have had a tremendous season so far and Oklahoma is sitting at 6-5, ensured of its worst season since 1999
Boise State doesn’t play too many home games where they are only 14 point favorites, but that is exactly what they are this week when Nevada comes to play on the blue turf. Boise State needs a win this week, and badly. Though the Broncos are 11-0, their only hope for a BCS appearance
Despite an 11-0 record up to this point, Alabama still realistically needs to win its next two games to get into the National Championship. With Florida a perfect 11-0 as well, the Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn this week and Florida in the SEC Championship
At first glance you might think that it was quite a shocker that Oakland beat Cincinnati last week, but at we said the Bengals were coming off their biggest win in years and might be flat. We also felt that Jamarcus Russell was hindering the Raider offense and the switch to anybody but he was the correct move
The best game of the week. Both teams come into this game with a record of 6-2. The Bengals have a division record of 4-0, whereas the Steelers are 1-1 in the AFC North. The Bengals also have a win over Pittsburgh earlier in the season. The Steelers need this game a little more based on Division
We had the Ravens +2.5 last week vs. the Vikings, and although they did miss a late field goal to win the game, the Ravens still covered in losing by 2.There are certain teams in this league that we feel are overrated and others that we feel are underrated.
The bloody Steelers had to choose last week to open up the offense, and shock the Chargers. You have to believe that they will come back to earth this week.
Both of these teams have problems. Miami really can’t play offense at the N.F.L. level. They look like a college or high school team at times, with their “Wildcat” offense and their quarterback who throws the ball like a shot put. Another quarterback, who has a funky delivery is Phillip Rivers
The next 2 games that we are picking, we are going a little bit out on a limb. There are 2 home dogs that both played very well last week as huge underdogs. Both teams had opportunities to win outright but didn’t.
There were some tough losses last weeks for teams, but none tougher for bettors than the people that had Chicago +5. Chicago was up by 2 points with Green Bay driving for a possible winning field goal.
If this match up seems familiar, it is because it should. The Cardinals served as the 2009 NFL Playoff's version of Cinderella, upsetting Carolina and Philadelphia before losing 27-23 to the Steelers in the Super Bowl.
