2009 Season Preview
The 49ers are finally on the right track behind the disciplined approach of new coach Mike Singletary. Sitting down Vernon Davis last year, told the team,” There is a new sheriff in town". They also did many great things in the off-season. Saun Hill or Alex Smith are still the starting QBs, so they drafted Nate Davis from Ball St., who can play, even though he had 2 bad games at the end of the season. They also brought in Damon Huard to add stability to the back-up role. Re-signing Takeo Spikes was a good idea and bringing in Dre Bly will help the secondary. The real steal of the draft was getting Michael Crabtree dropping into their laps after Oakland took the fast guy. Crabtree is going to be a star, as long as they find someone to throw him the ball. Glen Coffee from Alabama is also very good, and will give Frank Gore a breather. This team will surprise many people this year, as they will play hard every week and if they get a little luck, they could become this year's Miami or Atlanta.

With emotions running high on both sides of the ball, one team (Florida) will benefit greatly. The other will suffer an embarrassing loss on New Year’s Day. Cincinnati is playing without former head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Bearcats to significant success in recent years
Arizona showed that they could be back in the Super Bowl by destroying Minnesota last week. San Francisco lost a close one to Seattle. The 49ers went to the Cardinals on opening day and came away with a 20-16 victory, so don’t think for a second that the Cardinals
Jacksonville is slowly but surely getting back in the play off picture. They come into this game at 6-4 and have as good a chance as anyone to get a wild card birth. The 49ers have been playing better as of late and covered by a half point
Virginia coach Al Groh has beaten the Cavaliers’ arch rival Hokies just one time in his nine years at UVA. He and the Cavaliers look to make that number two and possibly avoid his firing this Saturday in Charlottesville. The Hokies are in a down year at 8-3 and will not contend for the ACC Championship,
Not quite the same allure as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, but this week’s Bedlam Rivalry game is Oklahoma State’s Super Bowl. The Cowboys have had a tremendous season so far and Oklahoma is sitting at 6-5, ensured of its worst season since 1999
Boise State doesn’t play too many home games where they are only 14 point favorites, but that is exactly what they are this week when Nevada comes to play on the blue turf. Boise State needs a win this week, and badly. Though the Broncos are 11-0, their only hope for a BCS appearance
Despite an 11-0 record up to this point, Alabama still realistically needs to win its next two games to get into the National Championship. With Florida a perfect 11-0 as well, the Crimson Tide will need to beat Auburn this week and Florida in the SEC Championship
At first glance you might think that it was quite a shocker that Oakland beat Cincinnati last week, but at we said the Bengals were coming off their biggest win in years and might be flat. We also felt that Jamarcus Russell was hindering the Raider offense and the switch to anybody but he was the correct move
San Francisco won an ugly game at home last week vs. Chicago. We won on Green Bay +3 against the Cowboys, and also hit on a halftime bet of Green bay +3. It looks like the Packers have corrected what was wrong with them
Another good week, as we went 6-3 on our picks and hit our 3 team teaser bet. We are going to start out the week by picking part one of our 3 team 10 point teaser. Both the Bears and Niners haven’t been playing too well as of late and need a win badly
We knew the bye week would help the Titans play better. They couldn’t play any worse than their 59-0 loss to New England. Vince Young played like an NFL Quarterback for one week. San Francisco was winning that game at the Colts last week at one point
The 49ers almost went into Houston and won last week, and except for the bad game they played against Atlanta they have been in every game this year. Indy is starting to look like the Colts of a few years ago. There was a rumor about a flu outbreak on the Colts last week
We like both of these teams very much. The Texans showed that they are for real by beating the Bengals last week in Cincinnati, raising their record to a respectable 3-3. San Francisco was playing great until they were killed by Atlanta 2 weeks ago
Boy, the 49ers, under new Coach Mike Singletary are playing great. It goes to show you how, a little discipline, goes a long way. More than in any other sport, coaching really can make the difference in the NFL.
St. Louis cost us a huge parlay last week as we bet both the Rams and Lions on the money line, to pull off upsets. We were half right. The reason the Rams didn’t beat the Packers last week, aside from sloppy play by the defense was Mark Bulger getting hurt at the beginning of the game.
Both of these teams have problems. Miami really can’t play offense at the N.F.L. level. They look like a college or high school team at times, with their “Wildcat” offense and their quarterback who throws the ball like a shot put. Another quarterback, who has a funky delivery is Phillip Rivers
The next 2 games that we are picking, we are going a little bit out on a limb. There are 2 home dogs that both played very well last week as huge underdogs. Both teams had opportunities to win outright but didn’t.
The Vikings are overrated; the 49ers are underrated. We really don’t know why everybody loves the Vikings this year. I guess Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, and a good defense is making the experts think they have a shot to go to the Super Bowl
This game scares me, not only as a Giant fan but as a bettor. This is a trap game for the Giants. After 2 huge wins against division rivals, Dallas and Washington, they now play 3 games in a row versus bad teams
The Seahawks crushed the Rams last week, but it’s not time yet to start talking Championship yet in Seattle. The Rams are still getting adjusted to the changes that the new coach put in.
This is going to be a good game. Everybody saw how good the Arizona Cardinals can be at times last year, when they almost won it all.
The Broncos take on a much different look this season after having to replace long time head coach Mike Shanahan (retirement), one of the game’s most successful coaches
Monday Night Football Betting
Probably the most well known handicapping angle is the “Monday Night Home Underdog.”
Stop thinking about rain by itself as a bad weather indicator. Look at the mix of wind, turf quality, and precipitation. It's the mix that matters, not one third of the mix.
Beating NFL 1st Quarter Lines
Bettors no longer have to look at mere sides and/or game totals to strike it rich as mostly all the online sports books (and many Las Vegas) outlets provide first and second half wagering lines along with quarter by quarter prices too on football betting.
