Tampa Bay @ Tennessee nfl betting Pick and Preview
Last season was a good time to be betting on the Tennessee Titans. Despite a meltdown at quarterback in which Vince Young was replaced with longtime veteran Kerry Collins, the Titans ek.ed out a handful of close wins, compiling a 13-3 (12-4 AGAINST THE SPREAD) record en route to becoming the top seeded team in the AFC come playoff time. Collins is again slated to be the starter as Young continues to figure his situation out, but the rest of the offense remains mostly unchanged: Smash and Dash aka Chris Johnson and LenDale White are the top rushers, and tight end Bo Scaife is still the starting tight end.
The biggest change is on the defensive line, where the Titans will have to deal without defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who left for a gigantic contract with the Redskins. The Titans defense should still continue to be one of the stingiest in the league after allowing the second fewest points last season.
Despite a 9-7 (8-8 AGAINST THE SPREAD) record last season, Las Vegas is not buying Tampa Bay as a legitimate title contender any time soon, putting them at +10000 to win the Super Bowl. First year coach Raheem Morris inherits a team without its proven defensive coordinator in Monte Kiffin (University of Tennessee) and a handful of lost starters. The biggest question mark in Tampa Bay seems to be its situation at quarterback, where Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich and rookie Josh Freeman will compete for the gig. The team also lacks much star power at running back, where Earnest Graham and Derrick Ward are more suitable as change of pace backs, and wide receiver, where Antonio Bryant leads a group of relative unknowns. In short, it would be surprising to see Tampa Bay come out of the NFC South in first or second place. The Bucs were at 3.5 point underdog going into this game.
