NCAA college football betting |
The 2011 college football season is two months away and there’s a good chance it may be the only game in town with the NFL lockout still ongoing. Some top teams have also left particular conferences for another, including a move by Colorado (+1710 Field) and Utah (+19821) to the newly-formed Pac-12 and Nebraska (+2620) heading north to Big Ten country.
Oklahoma (+416) is favored by most books to claim the crystal ball at the end of the season inside the Louisiana Superdome, which will be the site of this year’s title game. The Sooners return 29 players with starting experience and none is bigger than quarterback Landry Jones.
Jones won the 2010 Sammy Baugh Award as college football’s top passer and ranked first in the nation with 405 completions and led the nation with 4,718 passing yards.
The Sooners will also look to build upon a school record 36 consecutive wins at home, which is also the longest current string nationally. During the streak, the school has outscored its opponents by 1,085 points, translating to an average of 44.6 to 14.5.
Alabama (+697) is always going to receive betting action, especially due to its recent success under current head coach Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide will need to replace some key components from a team that finished 10-3 last season and registered a 49-7 blowout victory over Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl.
Out goes senior quarterback Greg McElroy and in comes two possible contenders under center in A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims. Whoever comes out of camp will likely rely heavily on a strong running attack that is led by punishing back Trent Richardson, who ran for 700 yards backing up former Heisman winner Mark Ingram.
Longshot bettors that are looking to make a major score in future wagering should look no further than the South Carolina Gamecocks (+4731). The Southeastern Conference has had a strangle hold on the national title for years and head coach Steve Spurrier possesses some major talent in Columbia.
Sophomore running back Marcus Lattimore is set to return after a successful first season, which included being named National Freshman of the Year. He rushed for 1,197 yards and 17 touchdowns, the school’s best season by a running back in nearly two decades.
Boise State (+1421) and TCU (+3144) are also expected to continue making noise in the college football landscape, after each school came away with convincing bowl victories to end last year’s campaign, beating Utah and Wisconsin (+2751) respectively.
The two schools will finally matchup this season in a highly-anticipated game that will take place on November 12 in Boise, Idaho.
