The San Francisco 49ers travel coast-to-coast for a Sunday afternoon tilt with the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast regionally on FOX.

San Francisco is off to a solid 2-1 start straight-up (2-0-1 against the spread) after grinding out a 13-8 victory over Cincinnati this past Sunday as a 1.5-point road underdog. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 40-point line, but went ‘over’ in its first two games.

The 49ers scoring stats are a bit deceptive and not really indicative of the offense’s performance so far. They are ranked 12th in the NFL with an average of 23.3 points a game, but 14 points came on two Ted Ginn Jr. returns for touchdowns against Seattle on opening day. They are actually ranked near the bottom of the league in both passing and rushing yards per game.

Philadelphia’s dream team has suffered a few early nightmares with not only losses in its last two games, but the loss of Michael Vick with different injuries in each of them. It blew a 10-point lead in a 35-31 loss to Atlanta as a 2.5-point road favorite and completely collapsed down the stretch in a 29-16 loss to the Giants as a nine-point favorite this past Sunday.

While the persistent injuries to their franchise quarterback remain a major concern, the biggest problem with this team are still on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles are ranked 12th in the NFL in total defense, but 24th in points allowed and 30th against the run. Both the Falcons and the Giants continually burned this unit with big plays that directly and indirectly led to game-clinching scores.

San Francisco is 1-9-2 ATS in its last 13 games following an ATS win, but is 3-0-1 ATS in its last four games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of its last five games. Philadelphia is 1-5 ATS in its last six games overall, but 7-1 ATS in its last eight games following a double-digit loss at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in 11 of its last 16 games.

The favorite in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in six of the last seven games. This week will serve as a major wake-up call for the Eagles as they are far too talented to continue to lose games this way. Even if Mike Kafka comes in at quarterback for the third straight week, Philadelphia is posting a big win at home this Sunday.

The Pick: Philadelphia 27   San Francisco 13
