Buffalo became the first team in NFL history to win back-to-back games after trailing by 18 or more points in each at one point. The Bills are also the only team in the NFL to feature three players with three or more touchdowns in 2011.
Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is one of three players in the NFL with three or more games of four-plus touchdown passes since the start of the 2010 season. “It feels good to be 3-0,” commented Fitzpatrick this week. “That being said, we’re three games into the season and there’s still a lot of games to be played and a lot of work.”
A big reason for the team’s success during the early portion of the schedule is averaging 7.96 yards per play on first down, which leads the NFL. It’s also important to continue handing the ball to running back Fred Jackson, as the franchise is 8-1 when he rushes for 100 yards or more.
The 113 points scored in the opening three games is the most in team history, as the team has gone over the 30-plus barrier in its first three games for the fourth time, the first since 1992.
Buffalo and Cincinnati will be meeting for the 25th time in the regular season this week, with the Bills holding a 15-9 advantage. This week’s game will mark the fourth meeting between the two teams in October, with the Bills owning a 3-0 mark in those betting prediction contests.
Second-year head coach Chan Gailey has been a big part of the team’s success, especially after last year’s squad was one of nine teams to feature a 3,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard receiver and a running back with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.
NFL betting fans will find that the Bills are 3-3 ATS as favorites the last two-plus seasons and the ‘over’ is 4-3 in that role.
Cincinnati enters with a 1-2 record and dropped its first home contest to the San Francisco 49ers last week, failing to cover as 1.5-point favorites in a 13-8 defeat. The Bengals do have the NFL’s No. 3 defense, with their two losses coming by a total of seven points.
“Work harder, work smarter, make the plays to push us over the top,” long-time head coach Marvin Lewis stated. “We had the lead. We had some great opportunities.”
The Bengals lead the NFL in fewest yards allowed per rushing play at 2.9, while also ranking second in the league in allowing just 4.3 yards a play from scrimmage. It will be tested in a big way in facing the team that leads the NFL in scoring, averaging 37.7 points per game.
Quarterback Andy Dalton will need to bounce back from a poor performance in Week 3 to give his team a chance in this contest, as he completed 17-of-32 passes for 157 yards and two interceptions last week. He came into that contest with a 105.7 passer rating through two games.
Facing an AFC East opponent isn’t likely to lead to success for sportsbook bettors for Bengals betting, as they’ve dropped six consecutive games against the spread versus the division.
