The Denver Broncos will try and keep the clock from striking midnight when they tangle with the New England Patriots this Saturday night in Foxborough in the Divisional Round of this season’s NFL playoffs. The kick-off is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

Just when you thought that Denver was dead in the water with Tim Tebow at quarterback, he once again proved everyone wrong with a stellar performance in last Sunday’s magical 29-23 overtime victory over Pittsburgh as a 7.5-point home underdog. The Broncos improved to 9-8 straight-up and 8-9 against the spread. They will now have to take their show on the road to keep the dream alive where they are 5-3 SU this season and a profitable 6-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of their 17 games this year.

Denver actually had the Patriots on the ropes early the first time they met this season with a 16-7 lead in the second quarter, but a series of miscues and turnovers led to a 41-23 loss as a seven-point home underdog. It goes without saying that the Broncos will need a perfect effort on both sides of the ball to win this time around.

New England earned the No.1 seed in the AFC by virtue of an overall record of 13-3 SU. It was 9-7 ATS and the total went ‘over’ in 11 of its 16 games. The Patriots went 7-1 SU at home this season, but were just 4-4 ATS. The total went ‘over’ in five of the eight games.

Look for Tom Brady and this New England offense to come out firing the ball down field early and often in an effort to build a lead against a scrappy and potentially dangerous Broncos’ team. The Patriots do not want to set the stage for any late-game heroics against their already sketchy defense that would derail their Super Bowl plans.

The Broncos are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as underdogs. The total has gone ‘over’ in 26 of their last 38 games overall.

The Patriots are 0-6 ATS in their last six playoff games and 0-5 ATS in their last five playoff games as favorites. The total has gone ‘over’ in 20 of their last 29 home games.

Denver is 5-1 ATS in its last six trips to New England and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of the six meetings there, but this time around the Patriots will score enough points to not only cover the 13.5-point spread but take the game ‘over’ the total as well.

The Pick: New England 35        Denver 20
