The well-rested Dallas Cowboys, who are coming off a bye-week, travel to Foxborough this week for a Sunday afternoon tilt with the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Kick-off is set for 4:15 (p.m.) and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

It is hard to know what to expect when Dallas takes the field in this one after a bumpy start that has included dramatic comebacks and unexplainable collapses. The net result is a 2-2 record straight-up and a 1-2-1 record against the spread. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the four games.

Quarterback Tony Romo finds himself under the spotlight for the Cowboys inconsistencies as his performance has had a direct outcome on most of their games. He has thrown for 1,273 yards and seven touchdowns while battling through a fractured rib injury, but he has also been picked-off five times while completing just over 60 percent of his passes. As he goes so goes the team in this game.

New England is off to a 4-1 start both SU and ATS while outscoring its opponents by a combined score of 165-119. Last Sunday, it rolled over the rival New York Jets 30-21 as a 7.5-point home favorite in a game that squeezed itself ‘over’ the 50.5-point line. The total has now gone ‘over’ in four of its first five games this year.

Tom Brady has the Patriots’ offense on a record-setting pace in both yards and points per game. He already has 1,874 passing yards and 14 touchdowns with Wes Welker accounting for 740 of those yards and five TD’s. The concern for this team is a defense that is ranked dead-last in the league in total yards allowed and giving up an average of 23.8 points a game.

Cowboys Betting are 6-0 ATS in their last six games as underdogs and 4-0 ATS in their last four games as underdogs on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of its last eight road games.

Patriots betting are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a SU win and 4-1 ATS in their last five games as favorites. The total has gone ‘over’ in 20 of their last 26 games overall.

These two last met in 2007 with New England cruising to a 48-27 win as a five-point road favorite. Things will be much closer this time around and while Dallas will not get the win outright, it keeps things close enough to cover with the 7.5 points. The Pick: New England 33        Dallas 28
