The New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles square-off in a crucial early season NFL betting showdown in the NFC East this Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. The kick-off in this one is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

New York comes into this game all square after two games. It followed up a disappointing 28-14 loss to Washington in its opener as a 2.5-point road favorite with a workman-like 28-16 victory over a depleted St. Louis Rams’ team as a seven-point home favorite. The total went ‘over’ in both games.

Eli Manning will be looking to exorcise some of the past demons that have plagued him in this series, but he will have to do it with a depleted receiving corps. Domenik Hixon has been lost for the season with a knee injury, Mario Manningham is listed as questionable with a concussion, and back-up tight end Travis Beckum is questionable with a hamstring injury. These loses aside, Manning also knows that the key to winning this game is to avoid the interceptions and fumbles that have cost his team more than a few wins in this series.

Philadelphia’s main injury concern is whether or not Michael Vick can shake off the effects of a concussion he sustained in last Sunday night’s 35-31 loss to Atlanta in a game it was a 2.5-point road favorite. Right now, it appears that Vick will be able to go, but the lines on this game will remain ‘OFF’ until his availability for Sunday has been confirmed.

If Vick cannot go, Mike Kafka will most likely get the call as Vince Young is still recovering from a strained hamstring. Last week against the Falcons, Kafka came very close to leading the Eagles down field for a potential game-winning score, but the drive stalled deep in Atlanta territory.

The road team in this series is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 games and the underdog is 11-2 ATS in the last 13 games, but Eagles betting is a perfect 6-0 both straight-up and ATS in the last six meetings in betting predictions. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the last four games.

The outcome of this game hinges squarely on Michael Vick’s ability to play. If he gets the green light and is behind center on Sunday, the Eagles win this game. If the original opening line remains at seven points, stick with New York to cover the spread.
The Pick: Philadelphia 28      New York 24
