Few teams had a better first nine weeks of the season last year than Iowa, who came out of the gates with a 9-0 record and found itself in the national championship game discussion. The Hawkeyes lost the next two games, to Northwestern and Ohio State, but rebounded by winning the Orange Bowl.
Fourteen starters return for Iowa, including senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi, who had an efficient but not spectacular junior season. Running backs Adam Robinson and Brandon Wegher combined for nearly 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground last year, and as both return, the season opener against Eastern Illinois should be nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. Look for Iowa to win comfortably, likely by four touchdowns or more.
