New York Jets (-2.5) at New York Giants, Total 37
The New York Jets took care of business as 6.5-point home favorites in a 27-7 win over the lowly Cincinnati Bengals. The big news surrounding the game was the return of wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who had been away from the football field for the first time in over 1,000 days and caught three passes for 66 yards and a 26-yard touchdown.
Many are expecting the team’s offense to breakout during the 2011 campaign, especially due to quarterback Mark Sanchez’s 121.5 passer rating through the first two preseason games.
The third-year starter has connected on 66.7 percent of his passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns.
“We’ve got a lot of weapons,” commented Jets head coach Rex Ryan. “I think it’s going to be something when you put Plaxico out there with Santonio (Holmes) and Derrick Mason. That’s going to be a special group I think.”
Bettors have certainly noticed with the Jets going ‘over’ the total in both preseason games.
The New York Giants are coming off a convincing 41-13 home win over the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in New Meadowlands Stadium—pleasing head coach Tom Coughlin after a dismal Week 1 effort.
“We played better and we improved tonight,” Coughlin stated after the game. “We had a lot of big plays in the game.”
Casual bettors will simply notice the lopsided score, but professionals are quick to point out that the Bears out-gained the Giants by a 414-380 margin in the contest.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning was on the field with the first-team offense for five drives, scoring 13 points and gaining 132 yards over that span.
This game has already had a substantial line move in having the Giants go from a 3-point home favorite to getting two points. It could be warranted as there really is no home-field advantage in this contest with both teams calling New Meadowland Stadium home.
A slight edge is given to the Jets due to their 25-12 ATS mark versus NFC East opponents, while the Giants are 7-18 against AFC East foes.
