The New York Jets will look to snap a two game skid when they take on the AFC East division-rival New England Patriots this Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium. The game is slated to get underway at 4:15 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

New York comes into this heated rivalry not only looking to beat the Patriots, but to right the ship after a 34-24 loss to Oakland as a three-point road favorite in Week 2, followed by an ugly 34-17 loss to Baltimore on Sunday Night Football as a five-point road underdog this past week. The total went ‘over’ in both of these games and is 3-1 on the year.

There Jets’ problems so far this season have been on both sides of the ball. On offense, they are ranked 25th in the league overall and averaging just 71 yards a game on the ground. The defense is still ranked eighth overall, but it is ranked 27th against the run and giving up an average of 23.8 points a game. These are hardly the trademarks of a Rex Ryan coached team.

New England was on cruise control in the first two games of the season, but ran into a buzz saw in Buffalo with a shocking 34-31 loss to the Bills as a seven-point road favorite. Staying on the road, the Patriots bounced back last week with a solid 31-19 victory over Oakland as six-point favorites. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of their first four games this year.

Bill Belichick has to be happy with a Tom Brady-led offense that is ranked first in both total yards and passing yards a game and third in scoring with an average of 33.8 points a game. The major cause for concern is a defense that is giving up 24.5 points a game and is ranked dead-last in the league in total yards allowed; giving up an average of 477.5 a game.

Giants betting is just 1-4 against the spread in its last five games overall, but 6-2 ATS in its last eight games against the AFC East. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of its last seven games against divisional opponents.

New England is 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games overall and 5-2 ATS in its last seven games against the AFC East. The total has gone ‘over’ in its last four games in the division.

New York has gotten the better of this series over the past few seasons with a 4-2 record both straight-up and ATS. The sportsbook total has gone ‘over’ in four of these games. You can bet that despite his team’s recent form, Ryan will have the Jets ready to go come Sunday. It will be a tall task to win this game outright, but stick with New York to keep things close enough to cover with the 9.5 points.

The Pick: New England 31      New York 24
