Detroit overcame a 20-0 deficit at halftime to register a 26-23 win over the Minnesota Vikings last week as three-point road favorites, moving the team’s record to a perfect 3-0.  Expectations are now sky-high for this franchise in the Motor City.

The Lions have now won seven consecutive games when including the final four games of the 2010 regular season.  “I think if you go down to our locker room after each of these three weeks, there’s nobody that felt that we played our best football yet,” commented head coach Jim Schwartz.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford can’t play at a much higher level, throwing nine touchdown passes in the first three games, which is second to New England’s Tom Brady with 11.

The team’s offense is definitely deserving of plenty of media attention, but lost in the shuffle is a defense that ranks No. 1 in the NFC in allowing just 288 yards a game.  The Lions are No. 2 in the NFL in stopping the run and have not allowed a big pass in the passing game.

Detroit is likely to go after Dallas quarterback Tony Romo this week, as he’s still suffering from a rib injury, which could help the unit up its total of eight sacks through three games of the season.

When making your NFL betting picks this week, take into account Detroit’s 18-13 ATS record the last two-plus seasons, while the ‘over’ is 21-13 in that span.

Dallas has fought its way to a 2-1 record and has had all three games decided by three points or less heading into this week.  The Cowboys have won the statistical battle in each contest this year, including a 77-yard edge over the Redskins last week in a 18-16 win as 3.5-point home favorites.

“When the whole season ends up getting written, they don’t ask you what happened in week two or three,” stated Romo this week in practice.  “Some are ugly.  Some you win going away.”

Plenty of injuries have plagued “America’s Team” in the early going, as Miles Austin (hamstring), Dez Bryant (thigh) and Felix Jones (shoulder) are all suffering from injuries that have made them questionable for this week’s contest.

The Cowboys lead the all-time series, 13-10, and have won five of the last six meetings, including last year’s 35-19 win at Cowboys Stadium as five-point favorites.

sportsbook bettors will find that the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, while the ‘over’ has cashed in five of the last six.
