With four fumbles, eight punts and an interception in a 45-7 loss to Ohio State, Marshall is not a team that West Virginia will be pencilling in as a loss. The Thundering Herd could barely get out of its own way, carrying the ball 21 times for 44 yards and not faring much better in the passing game. West Virginia shook the rust off with a 31-0 win over FCS Coastal Carolina, which was hardly a test.
Marshall should serve as a better warm up act for the Mountaineers in Week 2, especially because it is an intrastate rivalry game. West Virginia is favored by just under two touchdowns, and should cover that, even on the road in Marshall’s version of the Super Bowl. Look for running back Noel Devine and wide receiver Tavon Austin to explode on offense and finish with a few plays of 50 yards or more. Take West Virginia and the points.
