Maryland Terrapins at No. 13 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-14), Total 63 |
Maryland is set to play its third game against a ranked ACC team already this year, as it travels to Georgia Tech as a double-digit underdog. It’s the first road game for the team this year, which has many professional bettors cautious despite the large betting odds.
“The best thing you can always do is get off to a good start and take the crowd out of the game,” commented Terrapins first-year coach Randy Edsall. “That’s the mindset, basically us against 55,000 people. I like that.”
The Terrapins have a conference-high 18 freshmen in the two-deep. Maryland’s defense ranks 92nd in the country, allowing 412.5 yards per game, which is troublesome when facing an offense that averages 51.6 points a contest.
Quarterback Danny O’Brien still leads the offense, ranking 49th in the nation in passing yards per game and 52nd in total offense. His top target is wide receiver Kevin Dorsey, who his averaging 6.5 receptions and 77 receiving yards per game.
So far this season, the Terps have gradually improved their red zone offense. After scoring just one touchdown on seven possessions in the season opener versus Miami, Maryland has posted nine touchdowns in its last 13 attempts.
sports book bettors will find that the Terrapins are 8-8 ATS as an underdog, while the ‘under’ is 9-7 in that span.
Georgia Tech is off to its bets start since the 1990 season, meeting Maryland for the first time since 2007, which resulted in a 28-26 loss as three-point road favorites. The Yellow Jackets are a perfect 4-0-1 ATS this season.
“It means a lot, obviously to be 5-0,” commented Yellow Jackets running back Orwin Smith. “We just have to keep it going, because in my mind, we haven’t played real competition to really test our skills.”
The program is just one victory shy of becoming bowl-eligible for the 15th consecutive year, while leading this series, 13-6.
The Yellow Jackets will be facing an opponent that leads the ACC in turnover margin. Georgia Tech leads some categories of its own, including rushing offense and passing efficiency.
Before making your college football betting picks on Saturday, make sure to take into account Georgia Tech’s 3-10 ATS mark as a home favorite of 10.5 to 14 points if the spread stays within that range.
