No. 9 Nebraska Cornhuskers at Wyoming Cowboys |
Nebraska heads out on the road for the first time in 2011, traveling to Laramie, Wyoming, to take on the Wyoming Cowboys. The Cornhuskers come in with a perfect 3-0 straight-up record, but 0-3 ATS mark.
Offensively, the team managed to top 40 points for the third straight game, picking up a 51-38 win over Washington. This particular matchup on Saturday will be one of only seven that feature a pair of unbeaten teams.
It will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two squads, as Nebraska holds a 5-0 advantage. The last meeting was all the way in 1994, a 42-32 Cornhuskers win as 40-point home favorites.
Nebraska hasn’t lost to an unranked non-conference opponent since falling 40-7 at Penn State in Sept. 2002. On the other side, Wyoming has lost 14 straight games against ranked opponents by an average of 34.1 points.
sportsbook bettors will find that the Cornhuskers are 15-16 ATS over the last two-plus seasons, whole posting a 6-4 ATS mark on the road.
Wyoming’s 3-0 start this season is its first since 1996 and will be playing host in this series for the first time. The game is highly anticipated due to Nebraska becoming just the second Big Ten team to come into Laramie.
“To me, it’s just the same as anyone else coming in here to play,” commented Cowboys defensive linemen Gabe Knapton. “We’ve got to prepare just as hard, but maybe put in a little more work in and get ready to go. It will be a fun game.”
The four-game winning streak that the program is enjoying is the longest in the three years of the Dave Christensen era. It’s also the longest since the 2005 campaign.
Forcing six turnovers allowed Wyoming to slip past Bowling Green 28-27, as the last time the team created that many opponent miscues was in 1997. The Cowboys have covered two of their three games this year.
Quarterback Brett Smith is throwing it all around the field, as the school is averaging 265.7 yards per game to rank second in the Mountain West and 27th nationally. He’s a true freshman, but will take comfort in knowing that the Nebraska defense doesn’t seem that formidable in allowing 33.5 points a game.
The game will likely be determined on the ground, as the Cowboys are averaging 226.7 yards per game, while the Cornhuskers are ranked 11th nationally in gaining 252.3 yards.
college football betting fans will find that the Cowboys are 13-6 ATS as an underdog and 16-9 ATS overall the last two-plus seasons in betting predictions.
From a college football betting perspective, Nebraska is worth backing due to its 9-2 ATS mark as road favorites of 10.5 or more point, while Wyoming is 1-5 ATS as a home underdog.
