Green Bay Packers (-9) at Indianapolis Colts, Total 38.5
Green Bay is coming off a 28-20 home win over the Arizona Cardinals last week as 5-point favorites.
The Packers first-team offense was on the field for three series and posted a touchdown drive out of the no-huddle offense. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers connected on all five of his attempts during that particular series for 62 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown to wide receiver Greg Jennings.
“I feel that we’ve always done a good job with the no-huddle. It’s good to get quality work, game-time work,” commented Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. “Aaron does an excellent job handling the calls at the line of scrimmage.”
Backup signal-caller Matt Flynn continues to impress behind Rodgers, hitting on 5-of-6 attempts for 141 yards.
Green Bay has gone over the total in both contests during the preseason and the ‘over’ is 17-5 under McCarthy during exhibition play.
Indianapolis is still waiting to find out if starting quarterback Peyton Manning is going to be available for the season opener, but he will not be on the field Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Colts have been one of the worst performing teams in the preseason, getting outscored by a 49-13 margin in losses to the St. Louis Rams and Washington Redskins.
Quarterbacks Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky continue to get the bulk of snaps in practice and it’s unclear who would be the starter in three weeks if Manning is unable to go. Painter has been the starter in the previous two contests.
“It does not leave you many choices,” said Colts head coach Jim Caldwell. “You have to prepare with the folks you have.”
The results out of the potential replacements have been far from spectacular—completing 19-of-43 passes for 273 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions.
Bettors will likely side with the Packers even with the high number, as the Colts are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 preseason games.
