Carolina failed to score an offensive touchdown during four preseason games a year ago, but managed to find the end zone twice in a 20-10 home in over the New York Giants in head coach Ron Rivera’s debut.
Jimmy Clausen got the start at quarterback and bounced back nicely after throwing an early interception, leading the offense on a scoring drive in the middle of the first quarter. Cam Newton, the No. 1 overall pick from this year’s NFL Draft, took over for Clausen and led the team to a field goal in the second quarter.
Miami is undergoing a major transitional phase during the offseason, but still managed to pull out a 28-23 road victory over the Atlanta Falcons as 2-point underdogs last week. The Dolphins fell behind 17-0 in the first quarter before quarterbacks Chad Henne and Matt Moore each connected on long touchdown passes.
Quite a dichotomy has developed in betting on the Boys from South Beach, as the Dolphins are 17-27 ATS when favored and 26-15 ATS as an underdog during preseason play.
