One of the best rivalries in the NFL takes center stage this upcoming Monday night when the Washington Redskins square-off against the Dallas Cowboys in an early NFC East showdown. Game time from Cowboys Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Washington currently sits alone in first-place in the division with a surprising 2-0 record. It knocked-off the New York Giants 28-14 on opening day as a 2.5-point home underdog and outlasted Arizona 22-21 as a 4.5-point home favorite this past Sunday. The total went ‘over’ the 39.5-point line against the Giants, but stayed ‘under’ the 44.5-point line against the Cardinals.

Rex Grossman has got the job done so far under center with a steady and effective performance in both games. His overall numbers do not jump off the page, but he has thrown for 596 yards and four touchdowns, while completing 59.7 percent of his passes.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo is expected to be ready to go by Monday night after cracking a rib and puncturing a lung last week against San Francisco. Despite the injury, he came back in the game against the 49ers to lead the Cowboys to a dramatic 27-24 overtime win as three-point road underdogs.

Along with the concern for Romo’s health, Dallas has quite a few names on the injured list including Terrence Newman, Felix Jones, and Dez Bryant. The biggest loss is one of Romo’s favorite targets in the passing game, wide receiver Miles Austin, who could be out until mid-October with a pulled hamstring.

Redskins betting is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games against the NFC East and the total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last nine games overall. The Cowboys are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games and the total has gone ‘over’ in their last nine games.

Head-to-head in this series, Washington is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and a perfect 4-0 ATS in its last four trips to Big D. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of the last five meetings.

Keep an eye on the NFL betting lines for this game as right now it is just speculation that Romo will be ready to go. If they stay where they are or go higher, take the Redskins to keep things close enough to cover.
The Pick: Dallas 23        Washington 20
