(5) Texas vs. Wyoming, 7 PM

Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert’s first start for the Longhorns was less than inspiring. Gilbert, the heir to the prestigious Texas quarterback lineage, finished 14 for 23 for 172 yards and no touchdowns against a questionable Rice defense. Running back Tre’ Newton took the game into his own hands, rushing 18 times for 61 yards and accounting for three of Texas’ four touchdowns. Though the game was not a typical Texas blow out, the Longhorns still left with a 17 point win on the road.

Wyoming barely beat FCS Southern Utah, 28-20, and managed just 36 yards on 25 carries for a terrible 1.4 yard per carry average. If Wyoming can not get its running game to improve, it will be forced to rely on the passing game, which could make a road game in Austin, Texas a tougher task. Look for Texas to swarm on defense and have no problem putting up plenty of points on its home field. Take Texas and the points.
